April 4, 2009 Meeting

Laura Pople, Chairperson of the New Jersey GLBTI Coalition, was the guest speaker this month. Laura spoke on the history of the Coalition and it's accomplishments over the years that have improved life for GLBTI people in the Garden State. NJSG is a member of the New Jersey GLBTI Coalition.

It was announced that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is actively pursuing legislation to amend the Human Relations Act to prohibit discrimination on the bases of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression in housing, employment, and public accommodations. With the passage of House Bill 300, Pennsylvania would join New Jersey in legally protecting GLBTI people from discrimination. Many of our members are from the Eastern Pennsylvania region. If you live in Pennsylvania, please contact your representatives and urge then to give their full support to House Bill 300.

It was again announced that on May 2, 2009, the Unitarian Universalist Church is having their annual auction and will be using the entire church facility. Accordingly, the May 2009 meeting must be cancelled.

There is no dinner planned before the June 6th meeting. Now that the Raven has reopened, those interested in socializing before the meeting will be gathering at the Raven in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The monthly dinner at Bowman's will be moved to a different night than the meeting allowing for a more relaxed evening. The schedule for the dinner will be discussed at the next meeting.

As always, food and refreshments were served with a few additional treats provided by the members. The group welcomed one new member this evening, over twenty were in attendance. An open forum discussion group was held after the general meeting, announcements, and presentation for interested members. The remaining members relaxed and socialized in the main conference facility.

Our next scheduled meeting is Saturday June 6, 2009. This will be primarily a social meeting with no formal program or speaker scheduled. An open forum discussion group will also be held for members interested in a focused round table venue.
